How far is Lake Bovilla from Tirana?

Can I swim in Lake Bovilla?

No. The reservoir supplies drinking water to the capital, so swimming is restricted. The shores are also muddy. The true highlight of Bovilla is the hiking and the views.

Do I need to be extremely fit for the hike?

Not at all. The trail is steep but short — under an hour. Anyone with a moderate level of baseline fitness can complete it.

Why shouldn't I just drive myself?

The last few kilometers of the road are unpaved, uneven, and filled with potholes. Most rental cars are not equipped for it, and damages may not be covered by rental insurance.

These terms apply to every booking and every tour operated by Bovilla Guides ("we", "us"). By booking a tour you ("the guest") agree to them. They are governed by the law of the Republic of Albania.

1. The operator

Tours on this website are operated by Bovilla Guides, registered in Tirana, Albania. Contact: hello@lakebovilla.com.

2. Bookings

Booking, payment, and cancellation rules are set out in our Booking Policy and Cancellation & Refunds pages. Those pages form part of these terms.

3. The guest's responsibility

You must declare any medical condition, mobility limitation, or pregnancy that could affect your ability to complete a hike before the tour starts.
You must follow all reasonable instructions from your guide during the tour, particularly on the mountain trail and the metal stair section.
You must bring suitable footwear, water, and sun protection — see the "Practical Tips" section on the homepage.
You are responsible for the behaviour of children in your party.

4. Risk and insurance

Hiking in mountainous terrain carries inherent risk. You participate at your own risk. See our Safety & Insurance page for what we carry, what we recommend, and what is not covered.

5. Photography and media

We may take photographs and short video during tours and use them on this website and on our social channels. If you do not wish to appear in our media, please tell your guide at the start of the day. We will respect your request without question.

6. Conduct

We may refuse service or remove a guest from a tour without refund if their behaviour endangers themselves, other guests, the guide, or the environment. This includes intoxication on the trail, harassment of other guests, or refusal to follow safety instructions.

7. Environment

Lake Bovilla is the main drinking-water reservoir for Tirana. Swimming, bathing, and washing in the reservoir are prohibited by law. We follow a pack-in / pack-out rule on the trail — please carry out everything you carry in.

8. Liability

Our liability for any single booking is limited to the price paid for that tour, except in cases of death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Albanian law.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published on the date your booking is confirmed.

10. Disputes

We hope you will speak to us first if anything goes wrong — most issues are easy to resolve in conversation. Disputes that cannot be settled informally are subject to the courts of Tirana, Albania.
