The nearest quad and ATV riding to Tirana is the mountain track up to Lake Bovilla, about 40 minutes northeast of the city. It is the only real off-road riding within easy reach of the capital: a dirt climb through Bovilla Canyon to a viewpoint over a turquoise reservoir.
Can you rent a quad in Tirana and ride it yourself?
Not up this mountain. We run guided rides, not self-drive rentals, and so does everyone else operating on this road. The reason is the road: the final climb is unpaved, rutted and exposed, phone signal drops inside the canyon, and a rider who gets into trouble up there is a long way from help. You steer your own machine the whole way, but a guide rides with you.
What it costs
| Option | Price per person | Who is driving |
|---|---|---|
| Quad shared, two per bike | €45 | You or your riding partner |
| Quad solo, one per bike | €65 | You |
| 4×4 SUV instead | from €40 | Our driver-guide |
| — | We do not run buggies |
The ride runs 3–4 hours including the safety briefing, roughly 40 minutes of off-road track each way, and time at the viewpoint. Full detail and booking are on the Bovilla quad and ATV tour page.
Do you need a licence or experience?
A licence is needed only if you ride solo, because then you are the operator. If you share a quad and your partner steers, you do not need one. No previous ATV experience is required either way — every ride starts with a briefing and hands-on practice on flat ground before the climb begins.
Departures and where you meet
Three departures a day: 9:00, 13:00 and 16:30. This is the one tour we run without hotel pickup — you make your own way to our base camp on the road toward Lake Bovilla, and we confirm the exact meeting point when you book. If you would rather be collected from your hotel, take the 4×4 tour instead, which includes pickup in Tirana, Krujë, Durrës and Golem.
Quad or 4×4?
Ride the quad if the driving is the point and you want an active, hands-on day. Take the 4×4 if you are travelling with young children, want hotel pickup, or would rather watch the view than the track. We are the only Bovilla operator running both, and we compare them honestly in quad bike vs 4×4 at Lake Bovilla.

Not up the Bovilla mountain road. We run guided rides rather than self-drive rentals: you steer your own quad the whole way, but a guide rides with you. How much does a quad tour from Tirana cost?
€45 per person sharing a quad, two people to a bike, or €65 per person riding solo with one person per bike. That covers the machine, fuel, helmets, the safety briefing and a guide for the full 3–4 hours.
Do I need a driving licence to ride a quad near Tirana?

No. The quad tour is the one tour we run without hotel pickup: you make your own way to our base camp on the road toward Lake Bovilla and we confirm the meeting point when you book. The 4×4 tour does include pickup, in Tirana, Krujë, Durrës and Golem.
