The Artificial Lake in Grand Park, the one inside the city
This is the lake most people land on when they search for “Tirana lake”, and it is a genuinely pleasant city park lake of roughly 55 hectares inside Parku i Madh, south of the centre. You can walk the loop, run it, cycle it, and stop at a café on the way round. What you will not find is mountain scenery, turquoise water, or a viewpoint. It is a park, not a day trip, and it is free.
Farka Lake, the local one
Farka Lake sits about 10 km southeast of the centre and is larger than the Grand Park lake at 75 hectares, roughly 2 km long and 700 m across. A municipal park has wrapped most of the shoreline since 2015, with a paved promenade, benches and cycling. Locals come to walk and to fish. It is a good hour out of the city if you live in Tirana. It is not why you flew to Albania.
The Belsh lakes, worth the longer drive
About 90 minutes south of Tirana, the Dumrea plateau around Belsh holds 84 karst lakes scattered through olive country. Unlike anything closer to the capital, several of them are swimmable.
